Born in 1938, Prof. S.K. Mazumder graduated in Civil Engineering from B.E. College, Shibpur (now IIEST, Shibpur, Howrah West Bengal). He took his M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from IIT, Kharagpur. He is Fellows of IEI, ISH, IWRS, CBIP& Members of IAHR, EWRI/ASCE, NIH, BIS, IRC, ISCA, IPHE, CEAI CDC., ECI & IDC. Prof. Mazumder has 62 years of teaching, research, design & consultancy experience in hydraulics & water resources engineering. He was an Assistant Engineer in Irrigation & Waterways Directorate., Govt. of West Bengal, during 1959-62, Lecturer at IIT (Kharagpur) during 1962-67, Assistant Professor at R.E. College (now NIT), Durgapur during 1967-75 and Professor (Hydraulics &Flood Control) at DCE(now DTU) during 1975-98. He was AICTE Emeritus Fellow during 1998-2000. During Feb.-Nov.,1991 he was a visiting professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, Switzerland.He was Head of Civil Engg. & Dean, Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi Prof. Mazumder guided 30 thesis at M.E. and Ph.D. levels and 10 projects at B.E. Level, published 4 books and carried out several research projects sponsored by Govt. & private bodies. He has published 216 technical papers in reputed National/ International journals and Conferences in India and abroad. He delivered several key-note/ lectures and chaired many sessions on Hydraulics &Water Resources. Currently, he is one of the Faculty members of Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE). After retirement, Prof. Mazumder served a no of consultancy organizations e.g. ICT Pvt. Ltd, Scott Wilson India Pvt. Ltd., Aqua Green Engg. Pvt. Ltd., Rambol(india) Pvt. Ltd. Maccaferi (India)Pvt.Ltd.(under Retainership), New Delhi, in his area of specialization He got several awards from the Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Roads Congress (IRC), Distinguished Leadership Award from ABI(USA), Distinguished Professor award from DCE. In 2009, he received ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ from Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH) at CWPRS, Pune, for his immense contribution in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering. He received best reviewer awards from ISH for the years 2019-20 and 2020-21. He was the guest editor for the Journal vol. 51, no. 1, March 21, on the topic Scour and Scour Protection for Bridges Published by The Indian National Group of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineer. He is actively associated with formulation of Indian Codes e.g. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Indian Roads Congress (IRC).
