Phil H. Burgi Best Paper Award

Founding Statement

The Phil H. Burgi Best Paper Award rewards the best technical paper presented at the IAHR International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS). 

The Award was launched in 2018 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the IAHR technical committee on Hydraulic Structures

Named after the first chair of the Technical Committee, Philip H. Burgi, the Award was delivered for the first time at the 7th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures in Aachen, Germany.

Rules for the administration of the award

The best technical paper presented during the International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures will receive the Philip H. Burgi Best Paper Award. Suitable papers will be selected prior to the symposium regarding their scientific content, innovation and impact as well as their linkages with hydraulic structures.

The Award winner will be selected among selected papers after oral presentations and will be announced during the ISHS.

Philip H. Burgi Best Paper Award 2024 awarded during the 10th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS 2024) 

Lisa Burghardt from RWTH Aachen University (Germany) for her excellent work on "Multi-lab investigation of the effect of debris composition on bridge clogging during floods".

Philip H. Burgi Best Paper Award 2022 awarded during the 9th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS 2022) 

Mauricio Angulo, Arturo Rivetti, Cecilia Lucino & Sergio Liscia for the paper entitled
Anti vortex device to operate pump intakes below the minimum submergence 

Akash Jaiswal, Zulfequar Ahmad & Saroj Mishra for the paper entitled
Effect of diameter and inlet-depth on hydro-suction performance of a suction pipe

Philip H. Burgi Best Paper Award 2020 awarded during the 8th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS 2020) 

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, no award was presented in 2020.
