IAHR has proactively worked in introducing a labelling system aimed at acknowledging the quality of education and training programs tailored for the water sector. This unique label is conferred by IAHR to specific programs, serving as a recognition of their dedication in providing education aligned with the requirements of water professionals. The IAHR Label aims to enhance the international acceptance of the excellence inherent in these educational and training initiatives.
The UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), founded in 1975 following the International Hydrological Decade (1965-1974), is the only intergovernmental cooperation programme of the UN system dedicated to water research and management, and related education and capacity development. It addresses national, regional, and global water challenges, by supporting the development of sustainable and resilient societies
The Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO covers a wide spectrum of initiatives known as Flagship Initiatives.
The Flagship Initiatives play an important role in promoting and contributing to the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme’s role in Water Science by broadening its scientific scope as well as bringing in perspectives and ideas reflecting knowledge across the spectrum of its Member States. They work on long-term cross cutting themes related to hydrology issues. Their global aim is to enhance the management of water resources through science-based recommendations, education, and capacity development.
Currently, the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) has 16 Flagship Initiatives which the IHP Intergovernmental Council endorses.
