June marks a critical period for evaluating the quality and impact of research outputs, highlighted by the release of the Journal Citation Report (JCR) and the latest CiteScore rankings. While the Journal of Ecohydraulics celebrates an impressive debut with an Impact Factor of 4.5, other IAHR journals have followed the general trend of Impact Factor dips across all categories. However, many of our journals have ascended to higher quartiles in the CiteScore rankings, reflecting overall improved performance.
The 2023 Journal Citation Report reveals a global decline in Impact Factors, attributable to several factors:
Stabilization of publication output to a post-pandemic normal in 2022.
Increased volume from COVID-19 and Early Access publications now included in the denominator.
Highly cited 2019 COVID-19 papers shifting out of the denominator.

To get a holistic picture of a journal, additional metrics such as usage, speed, and acceptance rate should be considered. These can be found on each journal's website.
We extend our gratitude to the Editors, Associate Editors, Reviewers, and, most importantly, our authors and readers for their continued trust in our journals.
