Organized by the hydraulics group of Politecnico di Torino, Italy and the IAHR Technical Committee on Fluid Mechanics, ISSF aims at gathering a community of international researchers interested in understanding the fundamental aspects of shallow flows as well as applications associated with fluvial, coastal and atmospheric processes.
We welcome original work encompassing theoretical, numerical as well as experimental studies (both field and laboratory based) on the following topics:
Turbulence in shallow open channel flows and shallow free shear flows (mixing layers, wakes and jets)
Heat and mass transport processes in canonical and realistic shallow flows.
Sediment transport and morpho-dynamics in fluvial, coastal and estuarine environments.
Stratification effects and gravity currents.
Numerical simulations of fluvial and coastal floods.
Shallow flows interacting with hydraulic structures and machines.
Ecological aspects of shallow flows including hydrodynamics of swimming organisms.
Quasi two-dimensional flows in the atmosphere
