Journal of Hydraulic Research, Volume 62, Issue 4 2024The Journal of Hydraulic Research (JHR) publishes research papers in theoretical, experimental and computational hydraulics and fluid mechanics, relating to rivers, lakes, estuaries, coasts, constructed waterways, and some internal flows such as pipe flows. To reflect current trends in water research, articles that explore outcomes of interdisciplinary hydro-environment studies with a strong fluid mechanical component are especially welcome. Although preference is given to fundamental issues, papers focusing on important unconventional or emerging applications of broad interest are also appreciated.

 Overview

The current issue of the Journal of Hydraulic Research includes a number of cutting-edge contributions. If you would like to learn more about the latest developments as well as future research needs in air-water flows, the state-of-the-art paper presented here would be of great interest. If you care more about transient flows, check the second contribution where the authors investigate the dynamic response of a woven fire hose during valve-induced water hammer events, which is distinct from that of conventional polymeric pipes, through a combination of experimental and numerical studies. The third contribution would attract attention from those seeking to gain a better understanding of the role of the interstitial liquid characteristics on the penetration process of a cylindrical particle into liquid-saturated beds. Three additional shorter contributions that would be of interest to the hydraulic engineering community deal with the modeling of the flow in a Pelton turbine by using the moving particle meshless method, the use of a hybrid neural network model to predict lake water temperature, and the simulation of the breaking characteristics of waves in shallow waters by employing the conservative phase field lattice Boltzmann model.
