The 2024 RIBAGUA Best Paper Award was officially announced during the 31st IAHR Latin America Regional Division Congress held in Medellín, Colombia, in October 2024.
The RIBAGUA Best Paper Award rewards the best contribution to the Ibero-American Water Journal (RIBAGUA) with original research that addresses significant problems in water management in the region.
The 2024 RIBAGUA Best Paper Award was announced by the Editors of RIBAGUA, Fabián Bombardelli and Julio Kuroiwa to the article "Validation study of the SPHERIMENTAL model through analysis with hybrid simulation of the right intake of the Angostura dam (Peru). Ribagua, 7(1), 1–11 by Rebollo, J. J., López, D., Balairón, L., Ramos, T., Turrero, L., and Berga, M.I, (2020)" “for its successful application of a sophisticated numerical technique for solving a design problem of a hydraulic structure of notable importance in Latin America, and for its comparison of results with other models."
The conmemorative plaque was collected by co-author David Lopez, Head of Department of the Centre for Hydrographic Studies of CEDEX.

Juan José Rebollo is a Civil Engineer from the University of Castilla - La Mancha (UCLM), Spain, and a Doctor in Civil Engineering Systems from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Between 2005 and 2007 he was awarded a scholarship by the Erasmus Program at the Royal Stockholm Institute of Technology (KTH) and, later, a researcher contracted at UCLM.
In 2009, he joined the Higher Technical Scale of Autonomous Organizations of the Ministry of Public Works by competitive examination, developing his entire career as a civil servant at CEDEX.Since that same year he has been part of the European Division of the IAHR, where he has participated in various conferences and congresses, as well as in the constitution of the YPN in Spain. Also, between 2010 and 2014, he was an associate professor at the European University of Madrid (UEM), where he taught Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics.
He is currently a Technical Advisor at the Hydraulics Laboratory of the CEDEX Hydrographic Studies Centre, where he has participated in a multitude of projects both in Spain and in Latin America and Middle East.
