Dr. Gregory Shahane De Costa, recipient of the 2024 APD Distinguished Membership Award

IAHR Fellow Dr. Gregory Shahane De Costa Principal Academic (Engineering) at the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand and former Chair of the Asia Pacific Division has received the 2024 Asia-Pacific Division Distinguished Membership Award for his outstanding contribution to the scientific activities of the IAHR Asia Pacific Division. 

The award was officially announced during the 24th IAHR Asia Pacific Congress in Wuhan, China last 15 October 2024.

Dr. Gregory Shahane De Costa is a highly accomplished engineering academic at the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, holding a Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Sc. in Engineering, and an MBA. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer in both New Zealand and Sri Lanka, a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka. He is also a member of the International Professional Engineers Register. He has made significant contributions to engineering education and research. Dr. De Costa has authored five books, published numerous papers in international journals, and presented at key conferences worldwide. Additionally, he has held several leadership roles within the IAHR APD, including President from 2018 to 2022, and served as an influential figure in organizing international engineering congresses.
