Invitation to Participate in Survey on Quality Management in Flow Modeling

Our institute member Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is conducting a survey on Quality Management in Flow Modeling

Numerical flow models have become a standard tool in hydraulic engineering practice over the past decades. Rapid developments, particularly in data availability and computing power, allow and require increasingly sophisticated and complex models. This development raises the question of how the quality of modeling and its results can be adequately tested and ensured. Numerous factors and influences play a role in the process of flow modeling. These can vary significantly due to the different organizational structures of the involved institutions, the distribution of responsibilities, individual approaches, and time constraints.

The need for defined concepts for quality assurance (QA) and quality management (QM) is therefore evident. In cooperation with the DWA (German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste), methods and concepts for quality management in flow modeling are being developed. The goal is to provide all project participants – from clients to modelers – with recommendations for quality assurance and evaluation.

As part of this research, KIT is conducting an international survey on the state of QA/QM in flow modeling. The aim of this survey is to identify practical requirements for QA/QM processes and the need for improved concepts. The target audience includes professionals from engineering firms, consulting companies, research institutions, and clients who are involved in or responsible for flow modeling.

We invite you to participate via the link below by 1 March 2025. The results of the survey will be published afterwards. The survey will only take around 10 min and your participation is anonymous!
