Prof Stefan Haun appointed new Head of the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at the Graz University of Technology in Austria

Stefan Haun is a Full Professor and since 2025 the Head of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at the Graz University of Technology, Austria. He obtained his doctoral degree in hydraulic and environmental engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, in 2012 and lead the Hydraulic Laboratory of the University of Stuttgart between 2019 and 2024.

His research focuses on morphodynamic processes in rivers and reservoirs, the ecological renaturation of anthropogenic watercourses and the protection of the population from flood events. By using in-situ methods, laboratory experiments, and numerical models he uses a wide span of methods in research and education. Stefan Haun is the (co-)author of 36 scientific papers, 4 book chapters and of more than 70 conference abstracts. Since 2022, he also is the Vice Chair of the IAHR Flood Risk Management Committee and an Associate Editor of the Journal of River Basin Management.
