Over 400 participants have registered for the IAHR Online Training Course on Modelling Software for Transient Flows, which started on March 24, 2025, and will be made available on demand in the IAHR video library.
This course, organised by the IAHR Working Group on Transient Flows, is part of the new IAHR Training Courses Series. It aims to provide hydraulic engineers with a comprehensive understanding of numerical modelling software for transient flows in pressurised systems. The program includes an introduction to the fundamental theories and modelling assumptions underlying standard engineering software, followed by presentations of various commercial and non-commercial software applications. These sessions showcase their applicability through insightful case studies based on diverse hydraulic systems, such as hydropower schemes, water supply systems, and industrial flows. The course concludes with an open discussion on the role and limitations of modelling software in the design, protection, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic systems affected by transient flows.
