Report of Activities 2024

The IAHR Young Professionals Networks (YPNs) continue their progress, making significant strides in the hydro-environmental sector worldwide. The 2024 Annual Report highlights the outstanding contributions of our young professional members over the past year, showcasing their dedication, innovation, and collaboration in research, professional development, and global networking.

Throughout 2024, the YPN community expanded its reach, with members from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise coming together across continents to shape the future of water resources and environmental engineering. With a commitment to empowering the next generation of industry leaders, the IAHR YPNs provided countless opportunities for young professionals and students to engage in cutting-edge research, attend impactful events, and access valuable knowledge resources.

Notable events included several high-profile activities organized throughout the year, offering hands-on experiences and networking opportunities that helped strengthen the global YPN community:

• IAHR Southern India YPN: Field Visit (October 19, 2024) - Held in Maharashtra, India, this event provided young professionals with an opportunity to explore the region's hydrological networks. The field visit featured a tour of the Panchaganga region, where participants learned about sustainable watershed management practices supporting five key rivers. The highlight of the visit was a tour of the Khadakwasla Dam, an essential piece of infrastructure that played a pivotal role in water distribution following the 1961 Panshet Dam disaster.

• IAHR Spain YPN: YPN Night (October 23, 2024) - A networking event held in Madrid, Spain, aimed at connecting YPN members. The evening featured a dinner accompanied by recreational activities such as a fun Kahoot quiz focused on water-related topics.

• IAHR Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute YPN: Low Carbon Ride of China Water Week (March 23, 2024) - Held during China Water Week in Nanjing, China, this low-carbon cycling event encouraged postgraduate students and cycling enthusiasts to promote water resource protection through active participation. Riders cycled along a scenic riverside route, collecting stamps at various checkpoints, raising awareness of environmental sustainability in the process.

• IAHR Baden-Württemberg YPN: BAW Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau Lab Tour - (December 15, 2023): In Karlsruhe, Germany, members of the IAHR YPN Baden-Württemberg were granted exclusive access to the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute’s facilities. This lab tour provided a unique opportunity for members to learn about the latest developments in water engineering research and foster new professional connections.
