IAHR announces the launch of a Special Collection on African Water Security in the International Journal of River Basin Management (JRBM). This collection aims to advance research and foster discussions on the critical challenges surrounding water security in Africa and beyond.
Ensuring water security requires a comprehensive understanding of the environmental, social, and technological factors influencing water availability and management. This Special Collection will explore critical topics, including:
Impacts of climate change on water resources
River basin management
Hydraulic infrastructure
Urban water and wastewater systems
Groundwater sustainability
Coastal and estuarine ecosystems
Hydroinformatics and smart water management
Governance frameworks for equitable and resilient water management
IAHR encourages contributions from research presented at the 6th IAHR Africa Congress, but the collection remains open to high-quality submissions from scholars worldwide whose work aligns with these themes.
Manuscripts can now be submitted via the JRBM submission portal. To ensure your work is considered for this collection, please select “African Water Security” when submitting your manuscript.
Submission Deadline: End of November 2025.
IAHR invites you to contribute to this important collection and to share this call for papers with colleagues, students, and other researchers who may be interested. For any questions, please feel free to reach out to Dr. Moez Louati (m.louati@un-ihe.org).
We look forward to your submissions!
There is a need now more than ever to apply an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach to river basin management as recognised by the UN Watercourses Convention, World Water Vision, World Water Council and Global Water Partnership.
The International Journal of River Basin Management addresses this need. It brings together research dedicated to all aspects of integrated river and floodplain management including catchments, wetlands and estuarine systems.
IAHR Journals provide thought leadership and a platform to report on new research and exchange technical and professional knowledge on the hydro-environment. Publishing in IAHR journals provides citable, peer-reviewed credit to authors.
Since its first journal founded in 1963, the IAHR portfolio of journals has been expanded in line with the changing fields of hydro-environment engineering and water resources management, including a regional focus.
IAHR journals enjoy from the reputation of a learned society that looks after a rigorous peer-review process, selects the best editors and associate editors in their field and are published by renown international publishers Taylor and Francis and Elsevier.
