On 22 May every year, the world celebrates the International Day for Biological Diversity. This year’s slogan “We’re part of the solution” is a call for us to get even more deeply involved. From Nature-Based Solutions to the climate crisis, health, food, and water security issues, and to attain sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.

Ecohydraulics, at the intersection of two historically different disciplines, ecology and hydraulics, is well positioned to contribute with Nature-Based Solutions to the protection of biological diversity while ensuring more sustainable and resilient societies. The IAHR, through its technical committee on Ecohydraulics works to advance the discipline and bring together people from different backgrounds. 

On the occasion of the 1st IAHR Online Forum, to be celebrated from 5 to 7 July 2021, there will be a community-led session on Ecohydraulics hosted by Prof. Xiaofeng Liu and Dr Ana Bustos and a plenary session spanning Ecohydraulics and Nature-Based Solutions for Water Security organised by Dr Ellis Penning.
