19-23 June 2022 Montreal, Canada Website
In 2022, the IAHR International Symposium on Ice will be back to its birthplace, Montréal, the largest city of Québec which is a North American hub for research on river and coastal ice.
Every year, Québec deals with many ice related challenges for public safety, water infrastructure like hydropower generation and water supply, ice cover use for transport and even winter leisure activities. The impacts of climate change on ice conditions have been disruptive on many fronts and have motivated many researchers to find science-based mitigative measures or predictive tools for adaptation.
The Symposium aims at providing a premier interdisciplinary venue for international researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present and discuss latest research, ideas, developments, and applications in all areas of ice engineering, and to determine the most significant tasks for investigation.
The Symposium will cover various areas of ice research including river, lake, and sea ice, as well as their impacts on environmental ecosystems. Suggested topics include but are not limited to:
Ice Formation, Growth and Dynamics
Ice Mechanics and Properties
Ships and Navigation in Ice
Environmental Aspects related to Icy Waters
Waves and Ice
Winter Field Monitoring Instrumentation
Remote Sensing and Forecasting
Advances in Ice Numerical Modelling
River Ice Breakup and Jamming
Ice Related Flooding and Flood Mitigation
Ice-Structure Interaction
Icebergs
Ice Management
Marine and Atmospheric Icing
Operations
To encourage the attendance and participation of students, there will be a reduced registration fee for those currently enrolled in full time studies. There will also be a student paper competition. The student must be the primary author of the paper to be eligible for consideration.
