Senior Researcher
About
Graduated from Seoul National University with BA, MA, MS and doctoral degrees on geography, geomorphology, and hydro-engineering, I am now a senior researcher in the River Experiment Center, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT). I was also a visiting researcher at Deltares in 2016, and a guest researcher there during 2019-2020. Since 1997 when I received my master’s degree, my major is fluvial geomorphology based on field work. I finished my Ph.D degree in 2018 with the dissertation titled as “Analysis on long-term channel change of the Naeseong Stream.” Main interests are focused on dynamics and changes of rivers which are inevitably under engineered controls. Historical changes of rivers corresponding to dam construction, flow regime change and watershed land-use in the 20th century is my present concern. In KICT, I have a lot of experience in research projects. Up to date, I have been engaged as a project manager in the on-going project for long-term monitoring on the channel change of the Naeseong Stream since 2012. And I have been actively involved as both a team leader and member in the international collaborative research on flow-vegetation interaction in the experimental and actual channels. Since 2003, I’ve used ADCP as a main tool for measuring flow and velocity distribution in the field and in the experiments in the laboratory including REC. I am good at field measurements and post-processing of data using ADCPs and other hydrometric methods. I have experiences to be involved in the project for development of velocity and water level sensors and was a project leader for development of IT-based water level sensors using image processing techniques. Recently, I have also been participating on the project concerning localized weather radar system development and field validation.
