Emily WANG, graduated from China University of Geosciences with a bachelor degree of Business English in 2004 and received her master’s degree of Simultaneous Interpretation when graduating from Beijing Foreign Studies University in 2006. She was employed by China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR) immediately after graduation and has been working in the Institute until now. She gained her early experience of international cooperation in the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources of China as a seconded staff, where she got abundant first-hand experience about China’s administrative system and macro policy for water resources management and engaged in the coordination and administrative supervision of bilateral and multilateral exchanges and cooperation of China’s water sector. She has been serving in IWHR for nearly 18 years in the Division of International Cooperation, during which she has organized, coordinated and facilitated plenty of international events and activities in the field of water resources, hydraulics, water environment and hydropower projects. For instance, the High-level International Symposium on Water Resources and Hydropower in 2008, the 35th IAHR World Congress in Chengdu, China in 2013, the Academic Week for the 60th Anniversary of IWHR in 2018, the Kick-off Meeting of 3rd Asia International Water Week (AIWW) in Korea in 2023, etc. And she is now leading the preparation of the 3rd AIWW to be held in China in September 2024. Over the years, she has been in charge of the supervision, coordination and management of water related international organizations hosted in IWHR, including IAHR, ICFM, CHNCOLD, CNCID, WASER, WASWAC, IHA-China Office, ARRN, to name a few. She is also the alternate Board of Council member of both World Water Council (WWC) and Asia Water Council (AWC), representing IWHR. Along this process, she has established close ties and good relationships with these international organizations. Lately, she also participated in the founding of River, an international journal launched by IWHR in 2022 and is leading the daily operation of the journal as the Editorial Office Director. Having served as the Deputy Director of the Division of International Cooperation of IWHR for seven years, she is now appointed as the Special Assistant for International Affairs of IWHR President.
