dcfroehlich
Consulting Engineer
About
Specializing in complex and computationally-intensive designs and plans for water resource engineering projects, Dr. Froehlich has accumulated more than four decades of domestic and international knowledge in design, research, teaching, project management, and institutional counseling.
Career Type:
Practitioner/Engineers
Organization Type:
NGOs and Associations
Expertise Fields/Interests:
• Advisor to national government ministries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Mozambique, Myanmar) on agricultural irrigation system planning and design, bridge design and construction, erosion control of large alluvial rivers, and design of dams and reservoirs. • Hydrologic modeling and forecasting (both deterministic and stochastic) to evaluate climate change, impacts of land-use changes and structural controls on water resources, probable maximum floods, dam spillway designs, and dam breaches and flood waves. • Numerical modeling of surface water and groundwater flow and evaluating impacts of hydro-system modifications on infrastructure, aquatic habitat, and water supply. • Hydraulic analysis and modeling of surface-water flow, sediment transport, and contaminant transport in rivers and coastal waters to support hydraulic infrastructure design and conservation of aquatic resources. • Dam design: (1) spillway design flood evaluation; (2) breach development and flood wave analysis; (3) emergency action plan preparation; (4) reservoir capacity assessment; (5) hydraulic design of spillways, gates, and penstocks; (6) seepage analysis; (7) seepage collection system design. • Reservoir yield analysis for water supply planning and design. • Stream channel stability and restoration analyses using conventional engineering solutions and eco-engineering approaches. • Bridge scour analysis and development of analytical tools and numerical models to assess erosion quantitatively at bridges and design scour-mitigation measures. • Physical hydraulic modeling of dam spillways, bridge crossings, and channel protection works to assess their effectiveness and impact on aquatic environments.
