Prof. Yoshiaki Iwasa, Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University and Honorary Member of IAHR passed away on March 20, 2013. He was 84 years old. He made great efforts for the development of IAHR as the Vice-President from 1986 to 1990, and organized the 25th IAHR World Congress 1993 held in Tokyo. He also served Japan Society of Civil Engineers as the 79th President in 1991. He obtained excellent results for a wide range of research topics in hydraulic engineering field, including the fundamental theory of open channel flows and the pioneering work on Numerical Hydraulics. The following paper in collaboration with J.F. Kennedy, the former IAHR President, published in ASCE Journal will be an immortal paper in the History of Hydraulics.
