Angus R. Simpson is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Civil, Environmental & Mining Engineering at the University of Adelaide. He was at the University of Adelaide for 34 years. He completed his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering at Monash University (1974), a Masters at Colorado State University (1980) and a PhD in hydraulics (water hammer column separation) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA (1986). His research interests focus on the planning, design and operation of water distribution system infrastructure – including 1) water hammer modelling 2) condition assessment of water distribution systems using water hammer and 3) simulation & optimisation of the design and operation of water distribution systems using genetic algorithms and economic model predictive control. He has written 160 refereed journal articles.
