Massimo Guerrero has participated in various basic and applied research projects dealing with hydraulics and sediment transport where he contributed with innovative and personal solutions. In particular, MG has focused on subjects regarding river sediment transport. The increased possibilities of observation by means of ultrasound Doppler technology improve our basic knowledge regarding the hydro-sediment dynamics in rivers and along shore and the resulting morphologies. The achieved results and designed solutions regard new Doppler methodologies for the measurement/monitoring of hydro-sedimentary flows and the discovery of evidences about the reciprocal feedbacks between hydraulics and morphological features. These efforts aim at optimizing current practices for the design and management of large hydraulic works such as dams, water pumps and navigation channels and contribute to the implementation of new solutions in the context of uncertain climate and social changes. In October 2020 MG was appointed senior researcher with three years tenure track to Associate Professor in Fluid Mechanics at the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering DICAM of the University of Bologna.
