About
Manuel Toro, Biologist, is the Head of the Department of Water Environment at the Center for Hydrographic Studies of CEDEX. His main lines of work in the field of limnology focus on the evaluation of the ecological and conservation status of aquatic ecosystems, and the development of methodologies and programs for the monitoring and the study of environmental changes, as well as the use of paleolimnological techniques for the reconstruction of its evolution over time. Researcher in Spanish and European R&D projects, and in technical assistance works for the Ministry of the Environment, highlighting the projects carried out in aquatic ecosystems in extreme environments (Antarctica and high mountains). Co-author of more than 50 articles in scientific journals and in several books. Member of different committees and working groups for the implementation of the European Water Framework and Habitats Directives, and National Focal Point since 2019 of the ICP-Waters Working Group of the Geneva Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP). Spain/United States Fulbright Scholar in 2005-2006 at Colorado State University. Member of the International Society of Limnology and the Iberian Association of Limnology since 1986.
