Dr. Laknath is a doctoral & chartered engineer in Civil Engineering and he is an International Professional Engineer (IntPE). Currently, he works as a Senior Specialist in Coastal & Water Resources Engineering at Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd. (LHI) in Sri Lanka. He is an MBA holder & former Post-doctoral Researcher at Taisei Advanced Center of Technology (Taisei Corporation) in Japan. As a professional engineer, Dr. Laknath has been providing his service to his institute as a team leader/project manager & numerical modeller for nationally & internationally important development projects. For over two decades, he has been extending his expertise to key development projects in Sri Lanka, including the Colombo Port Efficiency & Expansion Project, Hambantota Seaport Development Project, Dam Safety & Reservoir Conservation Project & many fishery harbour development projects in his country. Port & harbour development, simulation of coastal & river processes, extreme weather events & tsunamis, flood forecasting, stormwater management, climate change & adaptation, and disaster prevention & management are some of Dr. Laknath's specialized areas. As the Principal Investigator, he provided a remarkable contribution to Taisei Technology Center in Japan by developing a coupled-modelling system to simulate cyclones & storm surges in coastal waters. Academically, Laknath has published over 40 scientific research articles in internationally reputed journals & peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Numerous times, his intellectual contributions to science have received recognition on a global scale. (e.g."Excellent Paper Award" at APAC-2019 & "Winner of Master Thesis Competition"). Laknath has been awarded several international scholarships such as the Japanese Government Scholarship & the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarships. Currently, Dr. Laknath serves as a committee member in internationally recognized committees such as the Coastal & Maritime Hydraulics Committee of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering (IAHR) & International Ocean & Polar Engineering (ISOPE, USA). He has also been serving as TPC (Technical Program Committee) Member & Session Organizer of the ISOPE Conference series since 2012. Further, currently, Dr. Laknath provides his service as a reviewer of national & internationally reputed journals (e.g. International Journal of Ocean & Coastal Management, International Journal of Ocean & Polar Engineering) and international conferences (e.g. ISOPE, ICS, IAHR)
