Primary areas of research  Transient test-based techniques (TTBTs) for leak (fault) detection in water pipe networks;  Modeling of pressurized pipe systems ;  Devices for pressure wave generation and their use for leak detection in real pipe systems;  Leak-law for leakage evaluation;  Pressure control in water pipe networks by pressure-reducing valves (PRVs);  Modeling of aquifers and lakes behavior by means of global atmospheric datasets (Reanalysis) and ground measurements;  Techniques of delineation of wellhead protection areas for water supply assessment.

Major Achievements:

Bologna 2016 Water Fair Innovation award for PPWM device. Invited lecturer for many international conferences (e.g., 1st IAHR online forum 2021). Principal investigator of a Project of Relevant National Interest funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (PRIN2012); co-Investigator Smart UWSS project at HKUST; chairperson of the special session on “Transients in pipes” at IAHR2017 (Kuala Lumpur) and IAHR2019 (Panama City) World Congress, member of the organizing committee of HIC2018, WDSA2014, CCWI2013 international conferences. Vice-Chair of IAHR Transient Flows Working Group. Associate Editor of the J. Water Supply, IWA, and J. Hydraulic Research, IAHR.
