* This profile page is created/updated for the 1st IAHR Online Forum (July 5-7, 2021) * Professor ZHANG received his BSc and MPhil degree from Nanjing University in 1990 and 1993, respectively, and his PhD degree from The University of Hong Kong in 2001. Since September 2001, he has been working in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Hong Kong, where he is a Professor now. Professor Zhang’s main research fields include wastewater microbiology, anaerobic digestion and bioenergy from waste/wastewater, biological wastewater treatment, environmental microbiome, biodegradation of emerging pollutants, antibiotic and antibiotic resistance genes, etc. He has been listed as Highly Cited Researchers in 2018 (Cross-Field), 2019 (Environment and Ecology) and 2020 (two categories: Environment and Ecology; Microbiology). He got the “Outstanding Researcher Award” of HKU in 2020 and “Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award” of HKU in 2017. He won First-Class Award in Natural Science of China Ministry of Education in 2015, and Second-Class State Natural Science Award of China State Council in 2016. As a researcher in the field of environmental microbiology, he has international impacts and reputations, especially in the field “environmental dimension of antibiotic resistance”, an emerging research frontier in environment science and engineering.
