Daniel S. Hayes is a river ecology and management researcher at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). He received his PhD from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna in 2021 for his contributions to environmental water management, focusing on environmental flow allocations and hydropeaking mitigation. Daniel’s research is in ecohydrology dealing with the ecological effects of short-term and annual flow modifications and seeking creative ways to mitigate these adverse impacts. Daniel is also involved in river management and restoration research, with themes ranging from biotic indicators and fish migration to fisheries. Daniel is a board member of the international “Early Careers on Ecohydraulics Network” (ECoENet) and the interdisciplinary “Hydropeaking Research Network” (HyPeak).
