Abstract: This study investigated experimentally the discharge reduction factor (discharge coefficient for submerged flow/discharge coefficient for free overflow, Cs/Cf) of sideweir. The experiments were carried out for various values of side-weir length to find out the effect of side-weir length on the discharge-reduction factor, as well as for various values of depth ratio (D/H) between river and detention basin. The results show thatthe discharge reduction factor decreases with D/H when D/H is larger than 0.63, while the discharge coefficients coincide with those for free overflow cases when D/H is less than 0.63. It is also revealed that the discharge reduction factor is rarely affected by the variation of side-weir length.
