Abstract: Construction of the 3D river model is essential for prevention of flooding, estimation of property losses caused by flooding and management of the properties of riparian zones. Due to the huge length of a riparian zone located along a course of a river, the irregular surface of riparian zones and the dynamic change of water levels of a river, the utilization of the ground surveying method has a limitation of construction of the 3D river models. Recently, the spatial information data sets such as the satellite images, the aerial photographs, and the airborne LiD AR (Light Detection And Ranging) technology and the bathymetric surveying are widely used for the riparian zone mapping. In this research, we used the aerial photograph, the LiD AR and the SONAR (SOund Navigation And Ranging) data for the generation of the 3D river models. First of all, the 3D river boundary, the line located at the intersection between water and land, is extracted using the aerial photographs and LiD AR DSM. Second, the levees are extracted using the LiD AR data. Finally, the 3D river models are constructed based on LiD AR DSM (Digital Surface Models), generated SONAR GRID.
