Abstract: The aim of this work is to provide a hydrodynamic characterization of the flow field in front of a wall-mounted vertical cylinder with a fitted collar placed at three vertical positions. Particle Image Velocimetry was used to measure the instantaneous flow velocity in the vertical plane in front of the cylinder. The comparison of hydrodynamic variables, such as vorticity, first and second-order velocity moments, was carried out, both with and without the collar. The collar does not inhibit the formation of vortices with horizontal axis in front of the cylinder. Two separated vortex structures are observed, one above the collar and one below the collar close to the bed.
