Abstract: One of the most affected areas by coastal erosion in Portugal is the shoreline between Barra de Aveiro and Mira Beach (NW Portugal). A 3D GIS (Geographic Information System) based volumetric model is presented to record nearly 50 years of aerial photos and to produce dune breaching scenarios. The sand loss volume and the morphometric evolution were integrated in ArcG IS using photogrammetric techniques and GPS&Total Station Land Surveying. The numerical model based in the Larson et al. (2004) model to predict dune breaching scenarios was developed in Matlab using an inverse approach.
