Abstract: Vertical structures reflect the incident waves causing navigation problems at the near shore. Vertical seawalls with wave return are used to eliminate the wave overtopping, affecting also the reflection coefficient of the structure. This paper aims to investigate the reflection in front of a vertical seawall with wave return, and to relate it with the wave overtopping. For this reason simultaneously measurements of the wave reflection and wave overtopping, were undertaken in a 3D physical model. Finally a new relative reflection coefficient is introduced to improve the reflection analysis.
