Abstract: The ability to model storm tides (combination of the storm surge and the astronomical tide) is important to describe how low-lying areas in estuaries are affected. This work aims at modeling a storm surge event caused by Xynthia storm that hit Lisbon in February 2010, characterized by a strong atmospheric depression, high tides and energetic winds. Although flooding in some low-lying areas of the Tagus estuary has been reported by the press, simulation results show that sea water elevation was not enough to cause that flooding.
