Abstract: The propagation of gravity currents in the presence of waves is investigated experimentally by carrying out full-depth lock-exchange experiments in a wave flume, in the absence and in the presence of waves. In the investigated flow conditions, the waves induce a re-laminarization of the boundary layer at the interface between the two fluids. Moreover the dynamics of the advancing front of the denser fluid becomes pulsating with an overall decrease of the both front depths and velocities.
