Abstract: For the layman, droughts are periods during which negligible rainfall inputs are combined with low soil moisture contents. Droughts may affect economic activities, depending on their duration and severity. Increased drought periods can even induce irreversible changes in ecosystems composition and functioning. Increasing our drought prediction capabilities is therefore of the utmost importance. In this study we investigate the skill of sea surface temperature patterns as drought predictor in Peru.
