Abstract: The present interest of world energy market towards renewable energy is clear. Among all other possibilities the wave energy is emerging albeit with the inevitable difficulties concerning its conversion. The world-wide contribution of wave energy has the potential to be of the same order of magnitude of the world electrical energy consumption. The present work focuses on the wave energy resource in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, which is characterized in terms of wave directions, heights and periods using a 40-year period ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) wave forecasting data.
