Abstract: The presence of entrapped air in pressurized hydraulic systems becomes particularly harmful during their pressurization, inducing a severe enhancement of transient surge pressure. In the present study, results obtained during the pressurization of experimental systems with entrapped air, in confined conditions or having orifice for air release, are presented and analyzed. Also the impact from the air pocket at different locations in the system on its transient response is examined.
