Abstract: This paper summarizes the research on development of scour hole at transition from fixed to loose channel boundary. This transition is characterized with sudden incision of the channel bottom and bank retreat accompanied with onset of a couple lateral flow vortices. The main attention in this research was paid to development of a new method of the spatial stabilization of the channel “parametric morphological scour” , using their shape modifications without application of any engineered methods of revetment, enabling successive natural channel changes. These changes would help to efficiently dissipate excess of kinetic energy in order to avoid an intensive morphological devastation and channel deterioration during flash flood events. A theoretical model of the kinetic energy transition in these exposed parts of the channel was proposed. It was verified with a set of laboratory flume experiments and reviewed with field cases.
