Abstract: It is well known that the flow-induced vibrations occur in small gate opening of long span shell roller gate. And the conditions arise of this vibration are analyzed theoretically and by model test and the zone of vibration arises can be predicted under the results of theoretical analysis. In this time, the gate has been designed under the zone of flow induced vibration is less than 10 cm gate opening and the field experiments have been done for certifying the design method. The result of field test shows that the unstable zone, namely flow induced vibration occurs in this zone, is less than 6 cm. This main reason is that the rigidity of prototype gate is greater than the one of the design gate.
