Abstract: As participants in the research programme' Ecology of the Elbe', we applied calculation presupposes (Ritzert Sohngen Nestmann 1997), for the evaluation of the impact of existing as well as planned rivertraining measures to seven reference sections of the German Elbe River. Due to poor maintenance during the GDR-era approximately 6000 groynes, that were installed in the Elbe during the last and the beginning of the present century, are mostly destroyed and silted. This contribution should point out which effect is induced by silting of groynfields with reference to mean waterlevels (unspilled groynes) and mean flow velocities. In this context the impact of reconditioning and dredging measures will be shown.
