Abstract: In this work there is presented a way to calculate water and sediment stream division at river bifurcation. The sediment stream, while sediment is described by the whole sieve curve, is calculated by Ackers-White’s method. The calculations of flow and sediment stream parameters are given graphically by solving so„called “„small “and big loop, separately for each river arm after the bifurcation. Introducing the boundary condition of river slope equalisation at the bifurcation, i. e. when the river slope before the bifurcation is equal to river slopes in both branches, allows to define the river depth, flow and new sieve curves down stream. The assumed calculation method was verified by the results of the field measurements, which were carried out during the flood in August 1997 at the Oder River division into Western and Eastern Oder River at its estuarial section Widuchowa.
