Abstract: A simple technique which can help to define statistical significance of turbulence characteristics and to better interpret turbulence measurements is suggested. The potential of this technique is illustrated on the basis of several examples including analysis of routine turbulence characteristics (velocity moments), and analysis of inertial subrange properties (intermittency and coherent structures).
