Abstract: Bed sediments-water column interaction is a key mechanism in water quality modeling for environmental contaminants; in fact, there substances could be partitioned into two different forms, dissolved and particulate, i. e. associated with solid matter in the water column and in the bed sediments. Therefore, their final fate depends on solids transport phenomena such as deposition, resuspension and burial, whose rates should be properly estimated in order to obtain a reliable results in modeling effort. The paper proposes the application of a model for burial velocity estimation; the model has been successfully applied to data field of Venice lagoon. Keywords: Bed sediments-water column interaction; environmental contaminants; environmental hydraulics; transport phenomena; burial velocity.
