Abstract: Results are presented from a laboratory experiment conducted on a large-scale channel with meander planform geometry of natural cross-section, generated by flow over a mobile bed. These have been used to quantify longitudinal dispersion. A comparison between standard and optimised values of travel time and dispersion parameters is presented. The variation in parameters throughout the meander cycle is illustrated and values compared with previously published values for laboratory channels with regular cross-sections.
