Abstract: Due to the unique character of sediment transport processes in alpine environments, there is a need for distributed models assessing sediment budgets and risk because of these hazardous processes. Within this paper a conceptual event based model for small alpine catchments is discussed. This model is structured in a modular way which enables the splitting up into the hillslope and the channel submodel. The channel submodel is based on geomorphic interpretation, fluviomorphological classification and field measurements of the channel reaches. The implementation of this conceptual model in an GIS environment is presented and the first results from a research study are discussed.
