Abstract: Four recently proposed models as well as the traditional model of the velocity profile in sediment-laden flows were examined by a comparison with selected datasets. Regression analyses were performed, and the residual sum of squares was used as criterion to evaluate the performance of each model. Except for the Coleman (1981) model, which consistently performed poorly, the overall goodness-of-fit of the models was broadly similar across the datasets without a clearly best model.
