Abstract: This study developed a numerical model to optimize the design parameters of multiport diffusers. The optimized parameters including diffuser diameter, length, number of ports and port diameter. The optimization scheme was computed by the Genetic Algorithm. The results of the parametric study revealed that the pumping head decreased as the number of risers, port diameter and diffuser diameter increased. In addition, the optimal design of the diffuser is dependent on the operation year when the objective function considers the cost of the construction and operation. As the operation year increases, the importance of the operation cost (pumping head) will lead the search process to reach the design that has large pipe, and small pumping head to reduce the total cost of the diffuser pipe.
