Abstract: The influence factors on the bank failure are both bank boundary conditions (such as bank form, soil properties and structure) and river dynamics conditions (such as bed erosion, changes in the water level and soil immersion). For understanding the different roles of the influence factors on the bank failure, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), the influence factors on the bank failure in the flood season and the dry season were studied in this paper. The hierarchical structure model of influence factors on the bank failure was established in the evaluation process. It was pointed that the influence factors with the greatest weigh are the bank soil properties such as the soil cohesion coefficient and the internal friction angle whether the dry season or the flood season, and the roles of the other influence factors will vary with the seasons.
