Abstract: Accurate prediction of river bank collapse at critical locations is of vital importance, however, a lot of factors interact to cause bank collapse, complicating the mechanism and process of bank-collapse. The BP ANN modeling technique was adopted in this paper. Using the model, the morphological changes in the Shishou bend of the middle Yangtze River between Guzhangdi and Yuweizhou were simulated, and the calculated results generally agreed with the field measurements. It suggests that artificial neural network model can be simple, robust, reliable and a cost-efficient tool for bank collapse prediction in the practical engineering. To improve the model performance, other factors which act on river bank collapse but weren’t discussed in this paper need to be incorporated in the further research works.
