Abstract: Chengdu Plain belongs to the upstream of Yangtze River in China, with an important nature and environmental resource. Although there is a Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Chengdu City is a water-scarity city of China. Since the river network in Chengdu Plain was great changed by society development, some subrivers of Min River became more worse of environmental degradation combined with the non-point source pollution in the rural area of Chengdu Plain. Therefore, from 2007, one demonstration model for river restoration and non-point source pollution management has been carried out to protect the water source place of Chengdu City. Firstly, this demonstration model of the integrated conservation has involved rivers natural function restoration, biogas digesters extension, constructed wetland construction, environment-friendly farming and community participatory environmental management mechanism. Secondly, this practice has taken shape surrounding the two demonstration communities of Yuantian and Yunqiao villages and taken great success of water environment protection, through the efforts over the past 5 years and participation and support of multiple stakeholders. Thirdly, this practice was also one new integrated protection model in local water source area communities, which represents a trend concept of community participating in sustainable development, cyclic economy and zero emission injecting into rural environmental management, and provides a new idea and approach to drive and facilitate local government to carry out effective water source area protection. Fourthly, this practice has shared with various stakeholders, discusses and develops more and better innovative practices of water resources protection aims at viewing comprehensively and coping with challenges and opportunities for protection and development of rural water source area of Chengdu City. Finally, it demonstrates practical as well as extension values for protecting rural water resources in Yangtze watershed and ensuring drinking water safety within the watershed. This practice worth to be scaled up in other rural water area of China.
