Abstract: With more and more areas suffering from water scarcity globally, soil water, as a type of water resources, has attracted much attention in hydrological research and water resources management. Agriculture consumes a large amount of water in China, thus, wa ter resources are critical determinant for agricultural production and food security. Generally, water, only after being transformed to the type of soil water, can be directly absorbed by crops and plants. Thus, it is of great significance to study on spatial and temporal distribution of soil water resources in large scale. Currently, point measurement and remote sensing technique are two main methods to study on soil water content distribution. However, it is too laborious and time-consuming for point measurement method,and it is poor in spatial and temporal resolution for remote sensing method. Compared with the two methods, the solution discussed in this paper could generally overcome the shortcomings mentioned above and basically solved the problem of roughness of spatial and temporal resolution in soil water monitoring and simulation. To verify the method, Handan City in North China Plain was chosen as a studying area. Results showed that, there was a good agreement between observed data from 2003 to 2005 and the simulat ed value, proving the validity and feasibility of method developed by this paper.
